I spent yesterday morning hiking and driving around the Arches National Park. Then I headed to Las Vegas. It was a long drive, but scenic. UT is pretty much all desert along I-70 and I-15. The mountains, canyons, bluffs, and peaks are beautiful and change in shapes and sizes as you go. Unfortunately, there is little else along the way, even gas stations. I was grateful that I left Arches National Park with almost a full tank. Eventually, the landscape changes and resembles CO more, but drier. As I approached AZ though, it went back to desert with large red rock canyons and buttes, covered in Sonoran desert plants, especially cholla cacti. Then that turns into the NV desert which is mostly dirt, dust, rocks, a few trees, and some grasses. The mountains are shaped more like mountains than the buttes, bluffs and canyons of UT. It is extremely hot here - some days it goes into three digits.
I finally arrived around 6:30 p.m. (Pacific time). My wonderful niece made a delicious vegetarian salad for me. Today we hiked around a park near her house, which includes a climb up a hill to where we could see all of Las Vegas and the surrounding areas. Then we had a lovely lunch at a terrific restaurant called SkinnyFats, which had some vegetarian options - which is a challenge in most other places I've been to on this trip!
Note: I just discovered that my last two posts were cut off as they were being published. Fortunately, the site saved the originals and I was able to re-post them.
