I left Boulder, CO, this morning for Arches National Park in UT. It took longer than it should have because I70 winds up and down the Rockies and the speed limits change constantly, from 75 to 45 to 50 to 60, etc., depending on how steep the roads are and how dangerous the curves are. It is incredibly gorgeous scenery though. At one point I was up so high there were still patches of snow on the ground. I passed Colorado Springs, Vail, and Aspen and lots of smaller, lesser known ski resorts and hot spring towns. Eventually the landscape changed from Alpine to desert and then I was in UT. The wind has been blowing fiercely here though not as badly as it did in KS a few days ago. It is stirring up the dust and sand all around.
I discovered that you have to make reservations for the campground in Arches National Park - which I had not done. So I ended up in a KOA campground on the other side of Moab (the side opposite Arches). It's nice enough and cheap, but because of the wind, I'm opting to sleep in the back of the van again instead of pitching the tent. The KOA has free Internet access/WiFi, which is how I'm able to post this. But I'm running the laptop on battery, so I'm keeping this short. I hope to put up photos in galleries or photo essays on this site in a few days, once I'm at my niece's place in Vegas. I hope to get there sometime tomorrow, but I want to explore Arches National Park before I leave here. I got here too late to do that today.
I'm typing on a picnic table at my campsite. It is old and falling apart and keeps rocking in the wind. Sand is getting on my laptop, so I'm going to sign off here.
